Last Saturday was a good day for NWCF athletes. Both Breanne Pelkey and Brian Shannon made it onto the podium in their classes, finishing 3rd and 2nd respectively. The NWCF Team consisting of Kristina, Haley, Joe and Manish also finished 3rd in the team division, only slightly getting edged out by CrossFit Vancouver for a spot in the two-team finale.
Breanne had a very impressive outing, finding herself in 2nd place going into the final WOD in the Women’s Open Division. Battling an achy back, she pushed through the deadlifts and the clean and jerks to beat out all but two women in the final WOD. Here is a video of her awesome performance in her fifth and final WOD of the day!
In a finale that only featured the top-6 men in the men’s Firebreather Division, Brian entered the WOD in 6th place. With the staggered start format of the finale, he had to wait 36 seconds after the leader started before he could begin. But once he got the green light, he shot out like a cannon and made up some serious time on the HSPU’s. The taller and heavier athletes had nothing for Brian in a WOD that really played to his strengths, as he passed all but one athlete to finish 2nd overall.
Breanne on the podium!
Brian on the podium!
Awesome job to all of the athletes that participated in WOD Fest, and a shout out to Mike Porter for putting on such a great event! We can’t wait to do it again 🙂
